Victorian Enamel Vinaigrette Locket Necklace Kyanite Scorolite – Brezza Floreale III Necklace

A charming pastoral Samuel Goldfarb antique Viennese enamel vinaigrette scent locket (circa 1900), is suspended from a hand linked chain of rich blue kyanite rondelles and intercepted with lavender pearls flanking faceted scorolite ovals which have been accented with minuscule crystal rondelles. Although we think of the Victorian period as gracious and elegant – this little scent locket, filled with perfumed wool cotton, would have most likely been used of ward off the foul odors of the streets.

The front of the locket depicts a young courting couple- while the backside illustrates an endearing pastoral scene of the gentleman serenading his love with a mandolin . Opening the enamel lid reveals a beautifully fretted grill, which when removed, uncovers the fanciful grille button with a bar that held the scented wool cotton. This particular vinaigrette reveals the ever so lightly fragranced cotton secretly hidden away for decades.

The makers mark “SG” and “A” on the interior lid and underneath the grille, indicates the provenance of Samuel Goldfarb, who is renown for his Viennese enamel scent lockets. A single small flea bite in the enamel is the only indication that this locket may have ever been gently worn. This charming work of art is a unique glimpse into the daily life of a bygone era.

33.25 inches long / 3.25 inch drop – locket .89 inches diameter.
